VY7523 is an intravenous (IV)-administered, recombinant, humanized IgG4 monoclonal antibody developed by Voyager Therapeutics to inhibit the spread of pathological tau protein. Pathological tau is closely correlated with disease progression and cognitive decline in Alzheimer's disease. VY7523 selectively targets a specific C-terminal epitope of tau and has demonstrated the ability to inhibit seeding and spread of pathological tau by approximately 70% in preclinical models. The drug has shown safety and tolerability in Phase 1 clinical trials with healthy volunteers and is currently being evaluated in a multiple ascending dose trial for early Alzheimer's disease patients. Its mechanism of action distinguishes it from earlier Alzheimer’s therapies that primarily targeted amyloid beta[1][2][5][6][8].
