Overview

Vybrin is a fibrin sealant designed for use as a surgical adhesive and hemostatic agent. It is a biological product typically composed of two primary components: human fibrinogen and human thrombin. When these components are mixed during application, they mimic the final stage of the natural blood coagulation cascade, converting fibrinogen into a fibrin clot. This fibrin matrix adheres to the wound surface, providing a physical barrier that promotes hemostasis and tissue sealing. Vybrin was developed to assist in controlling bleeding in surgical procedures where conventional techniques, such as sutures or cautery, are ineffective or impractical. It has been utilized in various surgical settings, including cardiovascular and general surgery, to prevent fluid leaks and support wound healing.
