The VZV mRNA vaccine is an investigational prophylactic vaccine candidate being developed by RNACure Biopharma. Utilizing the company's proprietary mRNA technology platform, the vaccine is designed to prevent infections caused by the Varicella-Zoster Virus (VZV), which manifests as chickenpox (varicella) primarily in children and shingles (herpes zoster) in adults. The vaccine functions by delivering messenger RNA that encodes specific VZV antigens into the recipient's cells. These cells then translate the mRNA into viral proteins, which are presented to the immune system to elicit both neutralizing antibodies and T-cell mediated immunity. This mRNA-based approach is intended to provide a robust and potentially safer alternative to traditional live-attenuated or recombinant protein subunit vaccines.
