Overview

W-OVA1 is an investigational mRNA-based cancer vaccine developed by the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) for the treatment of primary ovarian cancer. The vaccine consists of messenger RNA (mRNA) encoding the Wilms' Tumor 1 (WT1) protein, a well-characterized tumor-associated antigen that is highly expressed in ovarian malignancies. Upon administration via intranodal injection, the mRNA is taken up by dendritic cells, which then present WT1 epitopes to the immune system, stimulating a targeted T-cell response against WT1-expressing tumor cells. In the Phase I OLIVIA clinical trial, W-OVA1 is evaluated in combination with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (carboplatin and paclitaxel) to assess safety and immunogenicity in patients with advanced-stage ovarian cancer.
