W-peptide derivatives are a series of synthetic peptides developed by Seoul Pharma Laboratories for the treatment of sepsis. These compounds are derived from the W-peptide (WKYMVm), a hexapeptide known to be a potent agonist of Formyl Peptide Receptor 2 (FPR2). FPR2 is a G protein-coupled receptor expressed on various immune cells, including neutrophils and macrophages, where it plays a critical role in regulating inflammatory responses. By targeting FPR2, these derivatives aim to modulate leukocyte activation and chemotaxis to mitigate the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and multi-organ failure characteristic of sepsis. The development program was notably selected for a South Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare R&D initiative in 2009.
