W17 is a novel synthetic small molecule belonging to the substituted benzamide class, developed and evaluated for its potential as an anticancer agent. In preclinical in vitro studies, W17 demonstrated significant antiproliferative activity against the human colorectal carcinoma cell line (HCT116), yielding an IC50 value of 4.12 µM. This potency was found to be superior to the standard chemotherapeutic drug 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which exhibited an IC50 of 7.69 µM in the same assay. W17 was identified as the most potent anticancer candidate within a series of newly synthesized substituted benzamides that were also screened for antimicrobial and antifungal properties.
