W805EC is a proprietary oil-in-water nanoemulsion adjuvant designed for intranasal vaccine delivery. Developed by NanoBio Corporation (now BlueWillow Biologics), it consists of nanodroplets approximately 400 nm in diameter composed of soybean oil, water, and surfactants. W805EC enhances the immunogenicity of intranasal vaccines by facilitating antigen penetration of the nasal mucosa and promoting the uptake and maturation of antigen-presenting cells, such as dendritic cells. Its mechanism of action involves the activation of innate immune signaling through Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) and Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) pathways, which induces a balanced Th1/Th17 cellular response and robust mucosal IgA and systemic IgG production. W805EC has been clinically evaluated in intranasal vaccines for seasonal and pandemic influenza (e.g., NB-1008) and has shown preclinical potential for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and other mucosal pathogens.
