Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Waferyl is a sublingual fentanyl wafer formulation developed by iX BioPharma using its proprietary WaferiX platform. It contains fentanyl, a small-molecule $\mu$-opioid receptor agonist, and is designed for the rapid treatment of pain. The formulation is a freeze-dried (lyophilized) wafer that dissolves rapidly under the tongue, facilitating fast systemic absorption and bypassing first-pass metabolism. Clinical studies in Australia have evaluated its pharmacokinetics and bioavailability, demonstrating rapid detection in plasma and significant absolute bioavailability in healthy volunteers.
