Overview
Waigan Granule (also known as Waigan Qingre Jiedu Formula or Decoction) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Infectious Disease Hospital of Pudong New Area Shanghai. It is formulated as an oral granule and is primarily indicated for the treatment of exogenous fever associated with acute upper respiratory tract infections. The formulation is composed of four key herbal ingredients: Scutellaria baicalensis (Baical skullcap root), Lonicera japonica (honeysuckle flower), Rheum officinale (rhubarb), and Gardenia jasminoides (cape jasmine fruit). Waigan Granule exerts its therapeutic effects through anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and antiviral mechanisms, which are believed to be mediated by the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as TNF-alpha, IL-1beta, and IL-6) and the modulation of key inflammatory pathways, including the NF-kB and PI3K/Akt signaling cascades.
