Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Waitai Fuling Decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula derived from the Tang Dynasty medical text *Waitai Miyao* (Arcane Essentials from the Imperial Library). It is primarily composed of Poria (*Poria cocos*), Ginseng (*Panax ginseng*), Atractylodes macrocephala (*Atractylodes macrocephala*), Citrus reticulata (*Citrus reticulata*), and Ginger (*Zingiber officinale*). The Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is investigating this decoction for its ability to delay the progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in patients at stable stages (GOLD 0-2). The therapeutic rationale is based on the TCM principle of strengthening the spleen to benefit the lung, aiming to reduce phlegm production, modulate airway inflammation, and improve respiratory function.
