Overview

WAL0623 is an oral small molecule drug in development by Walden Biosciences for the treatment of proteinuric kidney diseases, including glomerular diseases. It acts as a dynamin stabilizer, designed to restore and maintain the function of dynamin—an enzyme critical for preserving the cytoskeletal architecture and function of podocytes and proximal tubule cells in the kidney. Dysfunction in these cell types is a hallmark of many chronic kidney diseases. By stabilizing dynamin, WAL0623 aims to prevent podocyte injury, reduce proteinuria, slow disease progression, and potentially restore kidney function. As of early 2025, it is IND-ready with plans for first-in-human Phase 1 clinical studies[1][3][4][9].
