Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Walnut oil is a natural botanical oil extracted from the seeds of the English walnut (*Juglans regia*). It is highly enriched in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), an omega-3 fatty acid. Walnut oil is primarily utilized as a dietary supplement and nutraceutical for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and lipid-lowering properties. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in improving lipid profiles in patients with hyperlipidemia and type 2 diabetes, significantly reducing total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglycerides. In preclinical research, walnut oil has also shown potential cardioprotective effects, such as mitigating letrozole-induced cardiotoxicity in zebrafish models by preventing the downregulation of G-protein coupled estrogen receptor 1 (GPER1) and modulating nitric oxide synthase 1 (NOS1) expression.
