Walnut peptide is a mixture of small molecular peptides derived from the enzymatic hydrolysis of walnut (Juglans regia L.) proteins. These peptides typically have molecular weights less than 6000 Da and are often enriched for fractions below 1000 Da[1][2][3]. Walnut peptides exhibit a range of biological activities including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive (ACE inhibitory), neuroprotective (memory-enhancing), anti-cancer, anti-fatigue effects, and modulation of gut microbiota[1][2][3][4][5]. Mechanistically, specific sequences such as YVPFPLP (YP-7) have been shown to activate peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor \u03b3 (PPAR\u03b3) and inhibit the extracellular regulated protein kinase pathway in neuronal cells[4]. Other studies indicate that certain peptides modulate TLR4-MAPK signaling to reduce inflammation in colitis models[5], while ACE inhibition is achieved through mixed-type binding at both active and inactive sites on the enzyme[1]. Walnut peptides are more easily absorbed than intact proteins or free amino acids due to their oligopeptide structure. They are used primarily as dietary supplements or functional food ingredients for health promotion.
