Overview
Walrinvax is a bivalent recombinant human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine developed by Shanghai Zerun Biotechnology, a subsidiary of Walvax Biotechnology. It is designed to prevent infections caused by HPV types 16 and 18, which are the primary drivers of cervical cancer and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN). The vaccine utilizes virus-like particles (VLPs) of the major capsid L1 protein, produced using a *Pichia pastoris* (yeast) expression system. Walrinvax was approved in China in March 2022 and received WHO prequalification in August 2024, supporting its use in both 2-dose and 3-dose regimens for females aged 9 to 45 years.
