Drug intelligence / Profile preview
The Walvax 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) is a biologic vaccine developed by Yuxi Walvax Biotechnology, a subsidiary of Walvax Biotechnology, for the prevention of invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. It targets 13 common serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F). The vaccine utilizes a conjugate platform where each capsular polysaccharide is covalently linked to a tetanus toxoid carrier protein and adsorbed onto an aluminum phosphate adjuvant to enhance T-cell dependent immune responses. It was the first domestic PCV13 approved in China (2020) and is indicated for use in infants and children. Clinical trials for the vaccine were led by institutions including the Beijing Chaoyang District Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
