Overview

WALVAX PCV13 is a 13-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide conjugate vaccine indicated for the prevention of invasive diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes 1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F and 23F. Each serotype-specific capsular polysaccharide is individually conjugated to tetanus toxoid carrier protein and adsorbed onto aluminum phosphate as an adjuvant. The vaccine is administered as a single-dose intramuscular injection (0.5 mL). It works by inducing an immune response against the included S. pneumoniae serotypes through T-cell dependent mechanisms facilitated by the protein conjugation[1][2][5][7]. Developed primarily for pediatric use to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease such as meningitis and bacteremia.
