Wanhua Oil (万花油) is a traditional Chinese topical analgesic liniment composed of a blend of herbal and essential oils. It is primarily used for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains in muscles and joints associated with backache, arthritis, strains, sprains, bruises, swelling from injuries (such as those from falls or blows), and for promoting blood circulation. The formulation typically includes ingredients such as methyl salicylate (30%), menthol (15%), camphor (10%), clove essential oil (~1%), eucalyptus essential oil (~3%), turpentine oil (~6%), camellia seed oil as a carrier base, along with various other herbal extracts like safflower and dragon's blood resin[4][5][7][9]. In Traditional Chinese Medicine theory it is believed to invigorate the blood and break up stasis to accelerate recovery after trauma. Wanhua Oil is applied topically 3-4 times daily by gently rubbing into the affected area; it should not be used on open wounds or broken skin.
