warfarin + pitavastatin

Warfarin + pitavastatin is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used primarily in patients who require both anticoagulation and lipid-lowering therapy. Warfarin is an oral anticoagulant that acts as a vitamin K antagonist by inhibiting the enzyme vitamin K epoxide reductase complex subunit 1 (VKORC1), thereby reducing the synthesis of active clotting factors II, VII, IX, and X[6]. Pitavastatin is a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor) that lowers cholesterol by competitively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase in the liver; this leads to decreased cholesterol synthesis and upregulation of hepatic LDL receptors to increase clearance of LDL from plasma[2][5]. Clinical studies have shown no significant pharmacokinetic or pharmacodynamic interaction between these two drugs when coadministered; INR and prothrombin time remain stable with combined use[1][4]. This combination may be considered for patients at risk for both thromboembolic events and dyslipidemia.
