WartPEEL

WartPEEL is a prescription-strength, compounded topical gel developed by MedCara Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of recalcitrant common and plantar warts (nongenital cutaneous warts). It is a synergistic combination of two active ingredients: salicylic acid (17%), a keratolytic agent, and fluorouracil (2% or 2.5%), an antimetabolite. Salicylic acid acts by dissolving the intercellular cement in the stratum corneum, reducing corneocyte cohesion and promoting desquamation. This keratolytic action strips away the thick, protective keratin shield of the wart, facilitating the deep penetration of fluorouracil into the virally infected basal cells. Once inside, fluorouracil irreversibly inhibits thymidylate synthase, disrupting DNA synthesis and halting the replication of the human papillomavirus (HPV)-infected cells, ultimately leading to apoptosis. WartPEEL is formulated in a proprietary sustained-release adhesive gel (Remedium Delivery System) that ensures localized, prolonged contact with the lesion while minimizing migration to surrounding healthy skin.
