Watermelon Frost is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily used for treating oral and throat ailments such as pharyngitis, mouth ulcers, and sore throat. It is traditionally prepared by packing a watermelon with mirabilite (sodium sulfate) and allowing it to ferment/effloresce, resulting in a white frost on the surface. Modern formulations, such as the Watermelon Frost Oral Spray, often combine this frost with other herbal ingredients like borneol, phellodendron bark, and coptis rhizome to provide anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and cooling effects. In clinical settings, it is being investigated for its efficacy in relieving post-operative dry mouth and sore throat following procedures like thoracoscopic lobectomy.
