Overview

WBP264 is a recombinant human-mouse chimeric monoclonal antibody developed by Hualan Genetic Engineering as a biosimilar to the reference product Erbitux (cetuximab). It specifically targets the extracellular domain of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR), a transmembrane glycoprotein that is overexpressed in various solid tumors. By binding to EGFR, WBP264 competitively inhibits the binding of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and other ligands, thereby blocking the dimerization and activation of the receptor. This inhibition suppresses downstream signaling pathways, including the RAS-MAPK and PI3K-Akt cascades, which are critical for tumor cell proliferation, survival, and angiogenesis. WBP264 is primarily being developed for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer and has also been investigated for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
