Overview

WC44 is a synthetic small molecule classified as a dopamine receptor ligand. It acts primarily as a full agonist at the dopamine D3 receptor and as a partial agonist at the dopamine D2 receptor. WC44 demonstrates 23-fold selectivity for the D3 receptor over the D2 receptor. Initial assay data suggested agonist properties at D3, but subsequent neuropharmacological studies indicated it may also act as a functional D3 antagonist in certain behavioral contexts. WC44 was developed and characterized in preclinical research to understand the role of dopamine receptor signaling in movement disorders and antipsychotic drug development. No evidence suggests WC44 is being developed as a pharmaceutical product by a drug company; it appears to be used solely as a research tool in academic or preclinical settings.
