WDVAX is an investigational, patient-specific cancer vaccine designed for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. It consists of a dendritic cell-activating scaffold that incorporates autologous tumor lysate (derived from the patient's own melanoma cells), granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and a CpG oligonucleotide (a Toll-like receptor 9 agonist) onto a microporous poly-lactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) matrix polymer scaffold. This biomaterial-based vaccine acts as a physical antigen-presenting structure, recruiting and activating dendritic cells and other immune-stimulating cells in vivo to induce anti-tumor immune responses. The approach aims to amplify CD8+ T cell responses while blocking regulatory cells, thereby enhancing immunotherapy efficacy in patients with metastatic melanoma[1][2][3][4].
