Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wedelia chinensis extract (WCE) is a standardized herbal extract being developed for the treatment of prostate cancer, including castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC). It is prepared from the whole Wedelia chinensis plant through ethanolic extraction, acid hydrolysis, and enrichment using preparative chromatography. The extract contains three primary active compounds—wedelolactone, apigenin, and luteolin—which act synergistically to inhibit the androgen receptor (AR) signaling pathway. WCE also disrupts the crosstalk between AR and the HER2/HER3-AKT signaling networks, which are often upregulated in treatment-resistant prostate cancer. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that WCE can suppress tumor growth, induce apoptosis, and reduce angiogenesis, providing a basis for its potential use as a therapeutic agent to enhance the efficacy of androgen ablation therapy.
