Vicinitas Therapeutics is developing a WEE1 kinase-targeted protein stabilizer using its proprietary Deubiquitinase Targeting Chimera (DUBTAC) platform. DUBTACs are heterobifunctional small molecules designed to recruit a deubiquitinase (DUB) to a specific target protein—in this case, WEE1 kinase—to remove polyubiquitin chains and prevent its degradation by the proteasome. This approach aims to restore or increase the levels of WEE1, a key regulator of the G2/M cell cycle checkpoint. The program emerged as a proof-of-concept from research conducted at the University of California, Berkeley, in collaboration with Novartis, and is being developed for the treatment of various cancers where WEE1 stabilization may be therapeutically beneficial.
