Overview

This preclinical biologic candidate is being developed through a strategic collaboration between the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) and Roche. The program focuses on a novel antibacterial approach that targets bacterial glycans, which are complex carbohydrate structures found on the surface of Gram-negative bacteria. By targeting these glycans, the biologic aims to treat infections caused by multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens, such as *Acinetobacter baumannii*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and *Klebsiella pneumoniae*, which are often resistant to conventional small-molecule antibiotics. The mechanism of action involves the specific binding of the biologic to surface glycans, which may lead to direct bacterial neutralization or the recruitment of the host's immune system to facilitate the clearance of the infection.
