WEIGHTAIN is a proprietary nutraceutical satiety ingredient developed by Ingredion Incorporated for weight management. It is a co-processed composite formulation consisting of a viscous dietary fiber (specifically the hydrocolloid guar gum) and whole-grain high-amylose corn flour, which serves as a rich source of type 1 and type 2 resistant starch (HAM-RS). The ingredient works through multiple biological mechanisms: the viscous fiber component increases gastrointestinal viscosity to slow gastric emptying and prolong nutrient absorption, while the resistant starch undergoes fermentation by colonic microbiota to produce short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs). These SCFAs activate G-protein coupled receptors, including free fatty acid receptor 2 (FFAR2) and free fatty acid receptor 3 (FFAR3), triggering the release of anorexigenic hormones such as glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) and peptide YY (PYY). These hormones signal satiety to the brain and suppress appetite.
