Overview

Weijing Tang is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula, originally described in the 7th century. It is composed of four botanical ingredients: Phragmitis Rhizoma (Lu Gen), Benincasae Semen (Dong Gua Zi), Persicae Semen (Tao Ren), and Coicis Semen (Yi Yi Ren). Traditionally indicated for clearing Lung-Heat and resolving phlegm-stasis, it is primarily used to treat lung abscesses and respiratory infections. In modern clinical research, Weijing Tang is studied as an adjunctive treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), community-acquired pneumonia, and bronchiectasis. Its pharmacological activity is associated with the regulation of inflammatory pathways, including the reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-8, and the modulation of the pulmonary microbiota.
