Overview
Weiqi decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed at Longhua Hospital affiliated with Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has been used clinically for over twenty years, primarily to treat chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and functional dyspepsia. The formula consists of Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Astragali, Radix Codonopsis, Rhizoma Curcumae, Fructus Aurantii, Fructus Akebiae, and Herba Taraxaci. Mechanistically, Weiqi decoction is believed to supplement Qi and activate blood circulation according to TCM theory. Modern studies suggest it may attenuate CAG by improving gastric mucosal blood flow and modulating the HIF-1α signaling pathway. It has demonstrated effects in reducing cell proliferation (Ki67), promoting apoptosis (cleaved caspase 3), inhibiting angiogenesis-related factors (COX-2, VEGFR1/2), and reversing microcirculatory disturbances in animal models of CAG with precancerous lesions[1][2][5]. Clinical trials have evaluated its efficacy and safety for CAG[3][4].
