Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Weleda Arnica Zalf (also known as Weleda Arnica Ointment) is a topical homeopathic and anthroposophic medicinal product manufactured by Weleda. The active ingredient is a D1 dilution of *Arnica montana* (whole plant extract), formulated in a natural ointment base containing refined peanut oil, wool wax, wool wax alcohols, yellow wax, ethanol, and purified water. It is traditionally indicated for the treatment of blunt injuries, bruises, contusions, strains, and haematomas based on anthroposophical principles. In a clinical trial context, it has been investigated by Isala Klinieken in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial for its efficacy in reducing postoperative edema and ecchymosis (bruising) in patients undergoing upper eyelid blepharoplasty. The product's mechanism of action involves the promotion of local blood circulation and the reduction of swelling to support tissue recovery.
