Welpass

Welpass is a temperature-responsive hydrogel formulation of the local anesthetic ropivacaine, developed by Genewel for postoperative pain management. It utilizes a poloxamer 407-based thermosensitive matrix that transitions from a liquid to a gel at body temperature, allowing for the sustained release of ropivacaine at the surgical site for up to 72 hours. Ropivacaine acts as a long-acting amide local anesthetic by blocking sodium channels in nerve fibers, thereby preventing the conduction of pain impulses. This formulation is designed to provide prolonged local analgesia following various surgical procedures, such as laparoscopic gastrectomy and colorectal surgery, without the need for continuous infusion pumps.
