Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wemycin is an injectable antibiotic product manufactured by Merlin Pharmaceuticals. It contains gentamicin sulphate, a small molecule aminoglycoside, as its active ingredient. Wemycin exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 30S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, which leads to the interruption of protein synthesis and subsequent bacterial cell death. It is primarily used to treat serious infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria. Due to poor oral absorption and hepatic inactivation, the drug is administered via intravenous or intramuscular injection.
