Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wen Chang Tong Fu Formula (WCTFF) is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) decoction developed by the Hospital of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of acute gastrointestinal injury (AGI), particularly in critically ill patients with sepsis or severe acute pancreatitis. The formula is a modification of the classic Da Cheng Qi Tang, incorporating warming herbs like *Aconitum carmichaelii* to address 'yang deficiency' and 'cold-accumulation' in the intestines. Its therapeutic effects are mediated through the protection of the intestinal mucosal barrier, regulation of gut microbiota, and suppression of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). WCTFF has been shown to reduce the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6, promote gastrointestinal motility, and inhibit the apoptosis of intestinal epithelial cells, thereby preventing the translocation of gut-derived bacteria and endotoxins into the systemic circulation.
