Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wen Dan Tang (Warm the Gallbladder Decoction) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula traditionally used to treat disorders associated with "phlegm-heat" disturbing the heart and gallbladder. The formula typically consists of a combination of botanical ingredients, including *Pinellia ternata* (Ban Xia), *Bambusa textilis* (Zhu Ru), *Citrus reticulata* (Chen Pi), *Citrus aurantium* (Zhi Shi), *Poria cocos* (Fu Ling), and *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Gan Cao), often supplemented with *Zingiber officinale* (Sheng Jiang) and *Ziziphus jujuba* (Da Zao). Clinically, it is indicated for symptoms such as chronic insomnia, anxiety, palpitations, dizziness, and nausea. Modern pharmacological research suggests that Wen Dan Tang may exert its therapeutic effects by modulating the central nervous system, specifically targeting neurotransmitter pathways such as GABAergic and serotonergic signaling to improve sleep quality and reduce psychological distress. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials for its effectiveness in treating chronic insomnia compared to other TCM formulations.
