Overview

Wen Qing Yin is a classic Chinese herbal formula first recorded in the Ming dynasty text “Bring Spring Back to Myriad Diseases” (Wan Bing Hui Chun, 1587). It is traditionally used to treat conditions characterized by blood heat and blood stagnation. The formula combines herbs that nourish and activate the blood (such as Angelica sinensis/Dang Gui), clear heat and toxins (such as Coptis/Huang Lian and Gardenia/Zhi Zi), promote blood circulation, stop bleeding, warm the menses, and cool the blood. Modern clinical applications include chronic uterine bleeding due to heat, irregular menstruation or excessive menstrual flow from blood heat or stagnancy in a deficiency conformation; it is also used for skin inflammation such as eczema or dermatitis with dry inflamed skin. Additional uses include support for menopausal symptoms like hot flashes and insomnia by balancing qi-blood dynamics[1][2][3][5]. The mechanism of action involves anti-inflammatory effects through clearing internal heat/toxins while supporting hematopoiesis/circulation.
