Overview
Wen-Shen-Jian-Pi-Hua-Tan decoction (WSHT) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula that has been clinically used for the treatment of obesity and obesity-related metabolic diseases, particularly in patients with decreased or deficient function of the spleen and kidney according to TCM theory. Recent preclinical studies have demonstrated that WSHT can attenuate early renal lesions in animal models of obesity-related glomerulopathy by modulating renal bile acid composition, suppressing lipogenesis, reducing inflammation and fibrosis, and improving metabolic parameters such as dyslipidemia. Mechanistically, these effects are associated with upregulation of farnesoid X receptor (FXR), increased salt-induced kinase 1 expression, and inhibition of sterol regulatory element-binding protein-1c signaling pathways[1][2][6].
