Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wen-Shen Juan-Bi-Tang is a traditional Chinese herbal formula used primarily for musculoskeletal disorders characterized by wind-cold-damp bi syndrome with underlying deficiency of kidney yang or qi and blood. The name translates as "Warm the Kidney and Remove Painful Obstruction Decoction." It is a modification of the classical formula "Juan Bi Tang," which itself is widely used to treat joint pain, muscle aches, rheumatism, arthritis, and chronic pain conditions associated with cold-dampness obstructing the channels. The addition of warming herbs in Wen-Shen (meaning "warm kidney") versions targets patients with signs of internal cold or yang deficiency. Mechanistically in TCM theory, it dispels wind-dampness from the meridians/joints while tonifying kidney yang/qi to restore circulation and relieve pain. Its mechanism according to modern pharmacology may involve anti-inflammatory effects and modulation of immune response[4][5].
