Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wen Tong Xiao Yong Fang (温通消痈方) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula used primarily for the treatment of inflammatory and suppurative conditions, such as abscesses, mastitis, and other localized infections. The formula is typically applied externally as a decoction residue poultice in addition to oral therapies. Its main actions are to warm yang, promote circulation, resolve stasis, reduce swelling, detoxify, and facilitate the resolution of pus. A typical composition includes: - Hedyotis diffusa (蛇舌草) 15g - Prunella vulgaris (夏枯草) 15g - Liquidambar orientalis fruit (路路通) 15g - Carthamus tinctorius flower (红花) 10g - Bombyx batryticatus (僵蚕) 15g - Artemisia argyi leaf (艾叶) 10g The mechanism of action is based on TCM principles—warming yang to dispel cold and dampness; promoting blood circulation; resolving phlegm; reducing inflammation; detoxifying; and facilitating tissue repair. It does not have a defined molecular target in Western pharmacology but acts through multi-component synergistic effects typical of TCM formulas[1][3].
