Overview
Wen-Yang Zhen-Shuai granules (WZG) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula developed as an in-hospital preparation by the First Affiliated Hospital of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine. It has been approved by the Hunan Provincial Drug Administration (Approval No.: Z20190105000) for the treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF). The formula is composed of seven Chinese herbs: prepared Aconite (Zhi Fuzi), Red Ginseng (Hongshen), Dried Ginger (Ganjiang), Poria (Fuling), Ophiopogon japonicus (Maidong), Schisandra chinensis (Wuweizi), and Licorice (Gancao). WZG is indicated for CHF patients presenting with the TCM pattern of Yang deficiency with water flooding. Mechanistically, WZG has been shown to exert cardioprotective and anti-apoptotic effects on cardiomyocytes by promoting the secretion of exosomal microRNA-155 (miR-155) and inhibiting the activation of the p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway.
