Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wendan Decoction (Wendan Tang) is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula first documented in the *Beiji Qianjin Yaofang* (Essential Formulas for Emergencies) by Sun Simiao. It is traditionally indicated for "phlegm-heat" syndromes, which manifest clinically as insomnia, anxiety, dizziness, palpitations, and digestive disturbances. The standard formula is composed of eight primary herbal ingredients: *Pinellia ternata* (Ban Xia), *Bambusa tuldoides* (Zhu Ru), *Citrus reticulata* (Chen Pi), *Citrus aurantium* (Zhi Shi), *Poria cocos* (Fu Ling), *Glycyrrhiza uralensis* (Gan Cao), *Zingiber officinale* (Sheng Jiang), and *Ziziphus jujuba* (Da Zao). Modern pharmacological research suggests that Wendan Decoction may exert its therapeutic effects by modulating neurotransmitter systems, including the GABAergic and serotonergic pathways, and by regulating the gut-brain axis and inflammatory responses.
