Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wenjing decoction is a classic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula originally recorded in the *Jin Kui Yao Lue* (Synopsis of Prescriptions of the Golden Chamber). It is a complex multi-herb formulation composed of 12 ingredients: *Evodiae Fructus*, *Angelicae Sinensis Radix*, *Paeoniae Radix Alba*, *Chuanxiong Rhizoma*, *Ginseng Radix*, *Asini Corii Colla*, *Glycyrrhizae Radix*, *Cinnamomi Ramulus*, *Ophiopogonis Radix*, *Moutan Cortex*, *Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens*, and *Pinelliae Rhizoma*. Primarily used for gynecological disorders characterized by "deficiency-cold" in the Chong and Ren meridians, it is frequently employed to treat endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, and irregular menstruation. The formula works by warming the meridians, dispelling cold, nourishing blood, and resolving blood stasis. Research conducted by The Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang Chinese University has specifically investigated its efficacy in alleviating pelvic pain associated with endometriosis, suggesting a mechanism involving the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian (HPO) axis and the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins within the pelvic microenvironment.
