Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wenjing Tang (also known as Wen Jing Tang or Wenjing Decoction) is a classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula originating from Zhang Zhongjing's ancient medical text, *Synopsis of the Golden Chamber* (*Jin Gui Yao Lue*). It is a multi-herb decoction traditionally composed of 12 herbs, including Angelica (*tang-kuei*), peony, cinnamon, evodia fruit, Chuanxiong, ginger, Pinellia, moutan bark, ophiopogon root, ginseng, licorice, and donkey-hide gelatin (often substituted with Rehmannia in modern formulations). Wenjing Tang is traditionally used to treat gynecological conditions characterized by cold in the lower abdomen and blood stasis, such as endometriosis, dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, abnormal uterine bleeding, and female infertility (including ovulatory-disorder infertility). As a multi-component natural-product mixture, it does not have a single active ingredient or biological target, though network pharmacology studies identify quercetin, kaempferol, and beta-sitosterol as core chemical components, and experiments show it modulates inflammatory and signaling pathways, including lowering TNF-α, HIF1A, STAT3, and EGFR expression.
