Overview
Wenjing Tongluo Formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal composition developed by Dongfang Hospital at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. It is primarily investigated for the treatment of difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis (D2T-RA), specifically for patients presenting with the cold-dampness obstruction syndrome (Han-Shi Bi-Zu) according to TCM diagnostic criteria. The formula is designed to warm the meridians (Wenjing) and unblock the collaterals (Tongluo) to alleviate joint pain, swelling, and stiffness. In clinical study settings, it is evaluated as an adjunctive therapy alongside conventional treatments, such as disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), to improve clinical response rates and reduce disease activity in patients who have not responded adequately to standard care.
