Overview
Wenshen Bugu Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula composed of multiple medicinal herbs. It is primarily used to decrease bone loss and reduce the risk of fracture, especially in postmenopausal women with breast cancer who are experiencing aromatase inhibitor-associated musculoskeletal symptoms (AIMSS). The decoction contains a combination of herbs including Astragalus (Huangqi), Codonopsis (Dangshen), Atractylodes (Baizhu), Poria cocos (Fuling), Adenophora tetraphylla (Nanshashen), Epimedium (Xianlingpi), Morinda officinalis (Bajitian), Cistanche deserticola (Roucongrong), Curcuma zedoaria (Ezhu), Salvia chinensis, Fructus Psoraleae, Rhizoma Drynariae, Achyranthes bidentata, Himalayan Teasel Root, Anemarrhena asphodeloides, and Cortex Phellodendri. The mechanism of action is not fully elucidated but is believed to involve multi-target modulation such as nourishing kidney function and strengthening bones according to TCM theory. Clinical studies suggest it may help mitigate bone loss induced by aromatase inhibitors in breast cancer patients[2][3].
