Wenshen Yiqi

Wenshen Yiqi is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound prescription commonly formulated as granules or "keli" (granulated extract). It is primarily used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), especially in patients diagnosed with lung and kidney qi deficiency according to TCM principles. The formulation contains multiple herbal ingredients whose precise composition may vary by manufacturer but typically aims to tonify the kidney and supplement qi. Mechanistically, preclinical studies suggest that it alleviates airway inflammation and remodeling by modulating molecular pathways such as the long noncoding RNA-XIST/microRNA-200c-3p axis and the miR-155/FoxO3a axis. These actions result in reduced proliferation and migration of human airway smooth muscle cells exposed to cigarette smoke extract, potentially through upregulation of cell cycle inhibitors (p21, p27) and FoxO3a while downregulating proliferative markers (PCNA, Ki67)[1][2][3][4][10].
