Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wenyang Jieyu formula is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal composition developed by the Third Affiliated Hospital of Beijing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of Parkinson's disease complicated by depression (PDD). The formula is designed based on the TCM principle of warming yang and relieving depression to address the pathogenesis of Yang deficiency and Qi stagnation. Pharmacological research suggests that the formula exerts its therapeutic effects by modulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, increasing the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), and elevating levels of monoamine neurotransmitters such as dopamine and serotonin in the central nervous system. Clinical studies have demonstrated that the formula, when used as an adjunct to standard dopaminergic therapy, can significantly improve both motor symptoms (as measured by UPDRS scores) and depressive states (as measured by HAMD scores) in patients with Parkinson's disease.
