Overview
Wenyang Tongluo Recipe is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by the Yunnan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine for the treatment of refractory rheumatoid arthritis (RRA), specifically the cold syndrome (Fenghan Shibi) subtype. The formula is designed to warm yang and unblock collaterals to relieve joint pain and stiffness. Clinical research focuses on its potential to overcome multi-drug resistance in RRA patients by modulating the expression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters, specifically P-glycoprotein (P-gp) and Breast Cancer Resistance Protein (BCRP), which are associated with reduced efficacy of conventional disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs).
