Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Wenyang Yisui Prescription is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formula developed by Wangjing Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences specifically for the treatment of knee osteoarthritis (KOA). Rooted in the TCM principle of "warming yang and benefiting marrow," the prescription is formulated to address the underlying "kidney yang deficiency" often associated with degenerative joint diseases. The formula typically comprises a combination of herbal ingredients such as *Rehmannia glutinosa*, *Epimedium brevicornu*, and *Cervus elaphus* colla. Pharmacological studies indicate that its therapeutic effects are mediated through the suppression of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and the inhibition of matrix-degrading enzymes like MMP-13. Furthermore, it has been shown to modulate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway, thereby reducing chondrocyte apoptosis and preserving the structural integrity of articular cartilage.
