Drug intelligence / Profile preview
West Nile Innovator DNA is a veterinary DNA vaccine developed by Fort Dodge Animal Health (now Zoetis) for the immunization of horses against West Nile Virus (WNV). It was the first DNA vaccine to receive regulatory approval for use in any species, granted by the USDA in 2005. The vaccine consists of a plasmid DNA vector that encodes the pre-membrane (prM) and envelope (E) proteins of WNV. Upon intramuscular injection, host cells take up the plasmid and express these viral proteins, which then assemble into subviral particles. These particles trigger a protective immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and the activation of T-cell mediated immunity. It is specifically indicated for the prevention of viremia caused by WNV infection in horses.
