Overview

Wet biological amniotic membrane is a biologic tissue-derived product developed by Guangzhou Ruitai Biotechnology and launched in China in December 2019. It is manufactured from fresh human amniotic membranes using a specialized process of rapid sampling, cutting, and irradiation sterilization designed to retain the tissue's natural biological activity. Clinically, it is primarily used in ophthalmology for the treatment of small corneal perforations (typically less than 3 mm in diameter) through a technique combining amniotic membrane plugging and transplantation. The membrane acts as a biological scaffold and reservoir for growth factors and extracellular matrix proteins that promote re-epithelialization and corneal healing while providing anti-inflammatory and anti-scarring properties.
